Case Study: Website Design Positively Impacts Sales for Pro Rodeo

on Apr 20, 2016 in News |

The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series is a world-class rodeo held weekly throughout the summer in downtown Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This award-winning rodeo is unique in its heritage, entertainment value, and locale. The rodeo is a deep-seeded element of Steamboat Springs’ history, dating back to before the town was incorporated.  And the rodeo tradition is alive and well today. Challenges Even with its wild success over the past 100 years, the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series was challenged delivering a modern online experience. Like many businesses, their website struggled with: Mobile-Friendliness: their existing website was unresponsive to mobile and tablet devices, featured poor navigation, and stagnant copy with little direct call-to-action. Ticket Sales: although traditional ticket sales were steady over the decades, there was no option to buy online as many would expect. This limited the Rodeo’s ability to track date-specific attendance and generate accurate pre-sale ticketing reports. Without a portal to buy tickets online, the Rodeo was unintentionally making it inconvenient for interested fans to purchase advance tickets. Growth Potential: without the ability to sell tickets online and track date-specific sales, the Rodeo was inhibiting their ability to facilitate future revenue growth. The Rodeo approached Steamboat Digital to assess these challenges and create a custom strategy that incorporated modern online best practices. Strategy and Implementation Steamboat Digital, in an effort to stay true to the Rodeo’s history, based the plan around maintaining the longtime culture of authentic western tradition blended with modern technology solutions.  These included: User-Friendly Website:using the WordPress web platform, Steamboat Digital crafted a custom website that is mobile-friendly, user-focused, easily edited with timely news and announcements, and clear call-to-action signals to drive online ticket sales. Online Ticket Sales: utilizing an existing ecommerce software package, the new website was built to integrate an online marketplace whereby patrons could purchase advance tickets online with direct-to-gate event access. Email Capture: for the first time in its longstanding history, the Rodeo was provided a way to build an email database to communicate directly with an engaged, opt-in audience of previous customers.  Results Since the 2015 website redesign and implementation of an ecommerce platform, the Rodeo has generated over $70,000 in online ticket revenue and collected over 1,000 opt-in customer email addresses. While traditional box office ticket sales...

7 Rules for Successful Sweeps + Online Promotions

on Apr 5, 2016 in News |

Online promotions, sweeps and other viral tools are a great way to grow your email database, brand awareness and customer loyalty. Follow these seven rules to successfully acquire qualified subscribers and keep them longer.  1. Keep it Simple and Clear Sweepstakes that are strategic, targeted, and time-sensitive give the appearance of exclusivity and prompt people to respond quickly. Sweeps that are too heady lose interest before it even starts. In order to maximize your email marketing list development during a short time period, you must have a clear plan in place prior to launch that should include automated emails, banner ads, social and mobile announcements, etc. Example: when running asweepstakes for a local yoga festival we made the prizes clear and the opt-in easy to strategically attract participants who would stay with the festival long after the last mat was rolled up.  2. Make it Personal A cash prize may entice more entrants to your sweepstakes, but by awarding your own merchandise instead, you will get a more qualified group that is clearly interested in your company’s brand and what it has to offer. Be sure to highlight your prizes through photography and ensure everyone knows what they might win. 3. Encourage Social Sharing Email and social media really do complement each other, aligning your sweeps strategy with your social media strategy will improve your contest by orders of magnitude. Offer your members an incentive, such as a second entry or a free gift, if they invite friends and other connections in their social networks to participate. This tactic will greatly expand the reach of your campaign. However, be sure to maintain control of the contest by providing a form to capture the additional email addresses and immediately send those subscribers a message with the details of the contest and an easy way to enter. Example: once registered for the contest, entrants were personally thanked with an email, the email included an opportunity to share the contest on social media and email to earn additional chances to win, further increasing the reach of the promotion and casting a much wider net, giving the yoga festival a broader spectrum audience than anticipated.  4. Rules of Engagement Clearly stating the rules of your contest are...

Sweepstakes Chakras + Power Moves, a Case Study

on Mar 21, 2016 in News |

One of the easiest and most fun ways to engage with your audience is through online promotions like sweepstakes, contests, quizzes, and surveys, to help you excite your audience and drive direct traffic to your store or offer. When implemented correctly, you’ll see an immediate boost in web traffic and an improved purchase behavior from your targeted audience. This case study was originally published by Second Street Lab and was presented at a national conference for it’s success. The Issue Last fall was the first annual Steamboat Movement Festival, a 4-day yoga retreat in the Rocky Mountains. The event promoter was struggling to generate buzz with a local-centric reach and secure enough ticket sales to reach their goals; they came to Steamboat Digital for ideas on how to help. The Concept Steamboat Digital’s crew first discovered the advertiser’s goals during the “customer needs analysis meeting”, then decided that an online contest would work best. Clear goals were created to: Generate publicity and create excitement for the event Appeal to a specific audience (females over 40) Drive traffic to the registration page of event website Build an email database of yoga enthusiasts for future marketing campaigns The Execution The sweepstakes ran for two weeks on the Steamboat Movement Festival website with the grand prize offering a VIP Pass to the festival – including a 4-day, full-access, all-inclusive ticket valued at $750. Cross-promotional marketing ran in the form of newsprint advertising, was featured on Facebook boosted posts, an email was broadcast to our tagged database of Fitness & Health users, and ads were run on local radio. Wanting a big win, Steamboat Digital followed all the recommended best practices. On the thank-you page, those that registered to win were given the opportunity to share the contest on social media and email to earn additional chances to win. This increased the reach of the promotion dramatically and drew a much wider audience than anticipated. The Results Over the span of two weeks, this sweepstakes resulted in 649 entries of which 52% were age 43 or older and 78% were female. This aligned with the core age and gender demographics that the event organizers were hoping to reach. 102 paid registrations were earned as a direct result of the discount...
